Jump Start

It was less than ideal,
that crowded basement
that I didn’t have
good associations with
(anyway)

the first time you tried,
I wouldn’t let you kiss me
because I knew you
and it probably was (not)
the best idea ever

but we danced and we talked,
so you kissed me, so we talked,
so you kissed me again,
so we played the game
(I lost)

and it wasn’t a good first kiss,
but a few weeks later,
it made me melt
and I never understood
everything I had to lose.
